quick update to say that the main parts of area-0 is finished, and I’m working on area-1 now.
I mapped out the first bit of the hub, where you go from area-0 to area-1, it kinda looks like this right now:
you start from that top-left corner (after falling down another pit), and then go down to the bottom-right corner. I decided now would be a fun time to introduce moving platforms, so to access that corner, you need to click an on/off switch to turn off the walls, which you can access with a moving platform. of course, you can ignore either. you can easily reach the on/off switch with some mid-air long jumps, or ignore that and mid-air long jump underneath everything.

I thought it was kinda cute. it’s very satisfying seeing things from the level editor work in game.
what wasn’t working, though, is when you stand on a platform and you move into spikes. spikes point in a direction, and when you move into a spike, if you are moving in the same direction as the spike, you won’t die. otherwise, you do :3. this is calculated with the player’s velocity, but the player’s velocity isn’t updated on moving platforms, so the players velocity is 0, so even if the platform is moving in the same direction as some spikes, you die. this is very funny. I’m not sure how to fix it. functioning moving platforms are only an ideal, it’s why our demons revere them.
the first song for the hub is finished shockingly, and it’s been done for a while. I completely forgot lol. the music for area-1 is almost done I think. I might make a background for the hub, but I might honestly save that for after the demo.
I’m so so tempted to make the first theme of area-1 be a city. I can’t. because celeste. kill me. but it would be so cool lmao ?? I kinda have to decide before I go and make rooms for area-1. hmmmm.
